Reflection Hymn
“
Lament is a crucial aspect of the Christian life. In the Bible we find psalmists, soldiers, outcasts, and kings pouring out their broken hearts to the mender and maker Himself. Our culture is not always as honest about grief as our God is, and the sincere displays of doubt and unending sadness found in scripture may take us by surprise if we view sorrow as a weakness in faith. God has given us examples of grief that show full honesty and real pain. May we follow in those footsteps rather than fall into a pattern of pretense and avoidance, especially before our God. Seasons of sorrow are sure to come. As we look honestly at lament, we can grow more comfortable approaching God with our deepest, darkest cries and questions.
- Have there been times in your life when you felt broken with sorrow? What are some ways you can involve God in your lament in seasons such as this?
- Jesus Christ is the man of sorrows, the suffering servant of God well-acquainted with grief and pain. How has your Lord suffered on your behalf in the ways you are currently experiencing suffering?
